“The Collection of Massimo Osti Menswear” at China Design Museum

The China Design Museum, designed by the famous architect Álvaro Siza, the Pritzker Prize winner (1992), has been opened in April 2018, financed by People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, with Bauhaus Institute as its foundation.

It covers an area of 16,800 sq meters at Xiangshan campus and serves both as a heritage of design and as a place for contemporary design collections.

Apart from the series “Bauhaus-centered of European modern design works”, this museum also houses more than 36,000 pieces of Massimo Osti’s designs of menswear donated by Mr.David Chu and more than 700 film posters.

SUBVERSION & RESHAPING

“The Collection of Massimo Osti Menswear” is a permanent exhibition presenting Massimo’s life-long inventions and innovative garments, along with innovative fabrics, precious manuscripts and sketches, historical documents, videos and images. It has has three sections:

Section 1: Form and Function: social context from 1960s to 1990s and garments with high practicality accordingly designed by Massimo;
Section 2: Textile innovations: new technologies and innovative fabrics and garments by Massimo;
Section 3: Military style: special garments inspired by military clothing, embodying Massimo’s unique perspective and contribution.
